Our story

Love, loss, faith, and hope

Some legacies are inherited. Others are given through love.

The Man Behind the Walker Name

Walker’s Place was born from love, loss, faith, and the belief that even in life's hardest seasons, hope can still take root.

My stepfather, Clet, taught me to love the outdoors through fishing, horseback riding, walking, exploring trails, and spending time together surrounded by nature.

Because of him, I discovered the peace, freedom, and quiet strength that nature can offer when life feels too heavy.

That love eventually helped lead me back home to my roots in Mississippi after nearly twenty years in Tennessee.

Coming home meant more than returning to a place on the map. It meant reconnecting with the land, the values he instilled in me, and the many wonderful memories we made together.

Clet, you may not have been my biological father, but you showed me a father's love. A love I will always carry with me.

Walker’s Place carries his name because it represents a legacy of love that I want to pass forward to children who need someone like Clet in their lives. Someone who will believe in them, love them, encourage them, teach them, and help them build the values and confidence they need to face life's challenges.

Through Clet, and through my own father, I came to understand something of God's love as a Father: a love that welcomes, guides, teaches, and gives us reasons to keep going.

A Little Background About Me and My Why

In 2002, I lost my little brother and my mother to suicide, just three months apart. In 2021, I experienced the heartbreaking loss of my youngest son. These losses have forever changed my life and the way I see the world.

Addiction has also run rampant throughout my family, including my own personal struggles with it. I know firsthand that addiction does not affect only one person. Its reach can extend into families, relationships, and generations, leaving behind pain that is often carried silently.

I share this part of my story not because it defines me, but because it has helped shape my purpose. I know that behind every struggle is a human being worthy of compassion, and behind every child affected by addiction is a young life deserving of love, safety, and the opportunity to grow.

I cannot change the losses my family has endured or rewrite the difficult chapters of our story. But I can choose to honor the people I love by turning my pain into something that serves others.

Why the Outdoors?

The outdoors has been one of the greatest gifts passed down to me, and it is a gift I want to pass along.

A fishing line cast into quiet water. A trail waiting to be explored. The discovery of wildlife. The satisfaction of learning a new skill. Or simply the freedom of spending a day outside, away from the worries of everyday life.

These moments may seem small, but they can open doors to healthy interests, confidence, meaningful connections, and joy.

For a child growing up in the shadow of addiction, time spent outdoors can offer a chance to feel safe, discover new possibilities, build trust, and experience the simple happiness of being a child.

I want Walker’s Place to be somewhere children feel seen, valued, encouraged, and loved. A place where the lessons learned outdoors can become strengths they carry throughout their lives.

A Love Greater Than Loss

The greatest tribute we can offer the people who helped shape our lives is to carry their love forward.

Faith, Hope, and Love are at the heart of Walker’s Place. We believe in helping others, both young and old, recognize their own worth, discover the gifts within themselves, and nurture the potential that lives in each of us.

Love is not simply something we remember receiving once upon a time. Love is something we choose to put into action.

It is a meal shared with someone in need. A hand extended during a difficult season. A memorable fishing trip. A child encouraged to believe in themselves. A person reminded that their life matters.

At Walker’s Place, we believe the love we've been given is meant to be shared, the lessons we've learned are meant to be passed forward, and the lives we've lost can continue to inspire the good we do today.

Because love doesn't end with loss. It lives on through what we choose to give.

Our Faith: Keep Casting

Faith is the foundation of Walker’s Place. Keep Casting means never giving up on a child or allowing hardship to convince us that hope is gone.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 · KJV

Keep casting love. Keep casting hope. Keep casting, even when the waters are rough.
